Have you ever heard an expression that made you stop and think? An advertisement on the radio caused me to stop and think about things the other day. I don’t remember the name of the company, but it was likely was in the field of security. The advertisement spoke of keeping people out a home they did not belong in it. The man ended by saying that even the best door lock a person can buy is no good unless it is put to use. “It’s no good unless you use it.”
My friend, consider that expression when it comes to matters of spirituality.
The words of the Bible are no good unless they are put to use. Jesus said, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven,” Matthew 7:21. The message of Jesus is clear. You can have the prettiest leather-bound Bible, with the best concordance, dictionary, and study helps there are, but if the words of God are not read and put to use, it does you no good. It’s no good unless you use it.
The blood of Jesus is no good unless you use it. What is meant by that? Please understand that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Also know that without the shedding of blood there is no remission (removal, forgiveness) of sins (Hebrews 9:22). Knowing this, the Savior came and shed His own, perfect blood so that all can have the opportunity to be saved. However, it does you no good, my friend, unless you meet it. “To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood,” Revelation 1:5. Where are we washed? In baptism, just as Paul was in Acts 22:16. Only when God’s plan of salvation is obeyed can it do anyone good. “For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ,” Galatians 3:27. Is the blood of Jesus doing you any good? It’s no good to you unless you choose to obey and receive the benefits of His shed blood on your behalf.
The message of the gospel is no good to others unless it is shared. “But sanctify the Lord God always in your heard, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear,” 1 Peter 3:15. How are the lost going to be reached if we don’t provide answers or look for opportunities to tell others? We have a command to reach the lost with the gospel (Mark 16:15-16). It’s no good (to others) unless YOU use it.
