I just want to go to heaven. I say it often and I really try to remind myself of these words all the time; boil it all down and through Jesus I know that I just want to go to heaven. Like you, I have known many through the years who just wanted to go to heaven. However, they had things come up in their lives and they found themselves drifting away from God. How can we ensure that we don’t drift away from God and miss out on heaven?
Four thoughts for your consideration:
1. Speak to God everyday
We are commanded to pray without ceasing – 1 Thessalonians 5:17. It is hard to drift from God when we are people of prayer. Understanding our need for Him and what He does for us in our lives. Spend much time in prayer and do not neglect the privilege that it is to pray to God.
2. Let God speak to you everyday God does this through His word.
Give the more earnest heed to the things you have heard lest you drift away (Hebrews 2:1.) The one who is rooted in God is the one who listens to God through meditation of His word (Psalm 1:1-3.) Meditate in the word of God and be planted and rooted in God to produce fruit.
3. Do something for God everyday
In Matthew 25:31-46, Jesus describes the judgement scene and He says to the saved on His right they had helped others in this life and says that as we do good to others, we are doing good to Him. Let us not be selfish, but be on guard as to how we can help others. Let us be like Jesus who went about doing good (Acts 10:38.)
4. Let God do something for you everyday
We must not get carried away with this one, but we also can’t jump to the other extreme God is at work in our lives and does work through us. It is undeniable. Luke records in Acts 21:19 that he (Paul) told in detail those things which God had done among the Gentiles through his ministry. God has a will that is going to be accomplished through our lives. Paul told them what God was doing through his ministry. Let us be instruments through which God can work – and think about it this way! He is ready to bless our lives and the lives of others through what we are able to do.
Do you really just want to go to heaven? It’s time to not be distracted, but serious about our relationship with Him through the blood of His Son. Obey Him to be saved! (Romans 10:17; John 8:24; Acts 17:30; Romans 10:9-10; Acts 2:38; Revelation 2:10.)
