VBS Makes a Lasting Impression!

VBS Makes a Lasting Impression!

This year’s VBS almost is here (July 7-11). VBS is an excellent opportunity to make a lasting impression for good on both younger and older alike, on the congregation and on our neighborhood and community. Just to make a point: how many of YOU have special memories of VBS when you were younger? Here’s WHY our VBS can make a positive lasting impression –

1. God is the Star. This VBS is all about our awesome God creating the world. Anything done to help people, especially those quite young, to know, love and obey God is important (cf. John 17:3; Philippians 3:10).

2. The Bible is the curriculum. Have you stopped to think how many people these days spend very little time studying the Bible? Thankfully, there are exceptions, but we have such a great opportunity to share the glorious message of Jesus with people as He’s revealed in the Bible (cf. 2 Timothy 3:16-17).

3. It’s especially for kids. VBS should be kid safe, kid friendly, kid loving and kid transforming. God is to be known, loved and remembered while hearts are young (Ecclesiastes 12:1). What an opportunity!

4. Multiple generations come together. There’s no doubt there will be people present from about 8 months of age to past 80 years. Few ministries of the church have such a generational impact.

5. People from the neighborhood and community show up. This gives us a chance to be good neighbors and to make a positive impression (Matthew 22:34-40).

6. Grown-ups get to act like kids again. This remains one of my personal favorites! Younger people need to see older Christians displaying genuine joy in being God’s children and being able to have fun (cf. Proverbs 17:22).

7. All who help and participate will end up exhausted, but the church’s unity and influence will be strengthened. And lives will be changed (cf. Philippians 1:3-11).
