Showers of Blessings

Showers of Blessings

Showers of Blessings – That’s the theme of our Gospel Meeting with John Gooch beginning on Sunday. And the theme really does say a lot about what our Gospel Meeting on October 6-9 holds for us. I did some study of rain in the Bible and the expression “Showers of Blessings” took on even greater meaning.

When Paul and Barnabas were at Lystra they taught about God saying, “Yet He did not leave himself without witness, for He did good by giving you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and gladness” (Acts 14:17). In our Gospel Meeting, the GOODNESS OF GOD will be declared and that HE ALONE CAN SATISFY our hearts.

When Jesus preached the Sermon on the Mount He said, “For He makes His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust” (Matthew 5:45). Rain is a matter of grace. Our Gospel Meeting will be a marvelous opportunity for GOD’S GRACE in Jesus to be on display to all.

The writer of Hebrews says in his “word of encouragement” (Hebrews 13:22) that, “For land that has drunk the rain that often falls on it, and produces a crop useful to those for whose sake it is cultivated, receives a blessing from God” (Hebrews 6:7). Our Gospel Meeting will be a USEFUL OPPORTUNITY TO “DRINK IN” BLESSINGS FROM GOD.

James reminds his readers of the prophet Elijah, who was a man of prayer. He wrote, “Then Elijah prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit” (James 5:18). Now that was after 3 and a half years of drought! The showers of blessing that will come in our Gospel Meeting will beautifully remind all of the IMPORTANCE OF FRUITFULNESS in our lives (cf. John 15:8; Galatians 5:22-23).

Moses described the land of promise to God’s people by saying “But the land to which you are going over to possess is a land of hills and valleys, which drinks water by the rain from heaven, a land that the Lord your God cares for” (Deuteronomy 11:11).

Our Gospel Meeting will stress heaven and eternity with God as the place of ULTIMATE REFRESHMENT AND CARE.

Think about it. How can someone NOT want to actively participate in our Gospel Meeting? Blessings like the goodness of God, experiencing grace, a special time to take in His blessings, having a great opportunity to become more fruitful and anticipating ultimate refreshment and God’s care as we consider heaven and eternity all make this too good to miss out on. Let’s all determine to enjoy our “Showers of Blessings” Gospel Meeting. Joyfully onsider it to be our way of “Singing in the Rain.”
